Rome – A city with amazing history

Rome

Rome lies on the western coast of Italy and is rich in history. A visit to Rome offers adventure, excitement and a history lesson.

Rome is a city that requires no introduction. The name alone invokes images of leaf-crowned emperors, mythical gods and majestic architecture. Travel in Rome is an enveloping task as Rome is one of the largest and oldest cities in Western Europe, with every corner marked in meticulous detail. Italy’s capital city is largely a sightseeing extravaganza geared almost solely toward the tourist; consequently, you may want to venture to the outskirts of town to experience local life and hospitality (and cheaper prices).

For 3,000 years Rome has stood at the forefront of civilisation. The might of the Roman Empire brought great wealth and prosperity to the city and its allies. Rome became a treasure trove of extravagant architecture and monuments.

Do you bear a passion for history? Are you interested in ancient architecture and temples? Do age-long and legendary activities beckon you?
If so, then you must definitely explore the ancient lands of Rome, at least once in your lifetime.

With an area of about 150 square kilometers, and a population of 3.8 million, Rome still stands tall in the vast field of world history. Whenever we come across Rome, Etruscan tombs, Republican meeting rooms, Imperial temples, ancient Christian churches, medieval bell towers, Renaissance palaces, and Baroque basilicas strike the core of our mind and we enter the superficial world of history and architecture. Rome takes us through the pages of history.

Rome is situated halfway down Italy’s western coast, about 20 kilometers inland. Rome is a large city, though the historical area is quite small. A majority of the Rome historical sights are restricted within a reasonable distance of the central railway station, Stazione Termini. All the main Rome monuments are situated west of the train station in Rome. However, it is always advisable to use the map of Rome, once you arrive in Rome.

Cheap holidays to Rome are going to please the entire family. Everyone who travels to Rome has something exciting to say about the city. Whether you are going for love or going to see the historical sites, Rome is going to offer something you have never experience anywhere else. Since there is something to do no matter what time of the year you visit Rome, you can plan to enjoy fun days and exciting and entertaining nights. You are going to find the many different restaurants with different cuisines are as exciting as the historical sites.

One can only imagine the city from above when thinking about Rome. When you enjoy the rooftop restaurants or the stairs to the top of the hills, you will see sites you have never seen in pictures. The summers are hot and the winters are cooler. You will enjoy the long walks and the free attractions and sites that can only be seen in Rome. If you want to see some of the musicians that play in Roman amphora’s in the hillsides, you can take a short trip to Testaccio. You can actually spend an entire day in this area. You can close your eyes and feel the music that fills the air.

Besides the historical sites and the musicians, you can take the Cat and Culture Tour. This is something everyone should experience. The cats are feral and find their homes around the ancient ruins and the pyramids. The cats seem to be everywhere you look. You will not get close to the cats as they run and hide from people who try to approach them, but they are lurking around everywhere. The cat population of feral cats is amazing to many people. There are over two thousand colonies of wild cats.

If you want to see parts of Rome that not seen or known to many visitors, you can explore the underground Rome. The cities, archaeological sites and catacombs are extraordinary. The underworld of Rome is amazing to explore and see. You can inquire about seeing the underworld once you arrive in Rome. However, if you plan to see the St Peter’s Basilica, you need to plan. An entire city under the Vatican and you can see it all. Can you imagine seeing a city under a city? It is so amazing that one can only imagine the thrill. Your cheap holidays to Rome are going to offer more of a fun education that will be appreciated.

Attractions

The central attractions of Rome are the Palatine Hill and the Forum. Via Del Corso is located north from the Forum to Piazza Del Popolo, accompanied by Spanish steps and the Trevi Fountain on the east. The Vatican in Rome is situated northwest of the Forum, across the River Tiber in Rome.

Rome, Trevi

Rome offers a great deal of pleasure with the likes of the arrogance of the Vatican, the immemorial haunting memories of the Coliseum or the sheer thrill of going back to centuries ago of timeless history.

Rome offers you a wide range of excitement, adventure, and enjoyment. The thrill and sheer experience of Rome is very distinctive and unique. Rome gives you the liberty to thrive on wine, architecture, history, and sunshine.

Rome’s Vatican City:
Many are confused by the autonomous status of the Vatican; however, Vatican City is an enclave within Rome that functions independently as an ecclesiastic state with the Pope as head. It is comprised of Saint Peter’s Basilica, Saint Peter’s Square and the Vatican Museums. Saint Peter’s Basilica is the largest and arguably the most awe-inspiring church in Christianity’s history, covering 5.7 acres with a capacity of over 60,000. The famous dome (cupola) was constructed by Michelangelo, who remained the main architect for many years. To get an idea of the total magnificence, the Statue of Liberty can fit neatly inside the dome where the main altar sits. While inside the Vatican City walls, be sure to visit the Vatican Museums, which house an incredible collection from ancient Egypt to Ethnology.

The Colosseum is undoubtedly the most recognisable of all ancient Romeโ€™s landmarks. Built by Jewish slaves, the amphitheatre was synonymous with blood sports. Opened by Emperor Titus in 80 AD, the imperial thirst for bloodshed was insatiable. Gladiators became infamous overnight as battles between man and beast caught the imagination of the Roman public. Hundreds of thousands of men and beasts were slaughtered during the course of these Roman games. The butchery continued mercilessly until these particular blood sports were outlawed in 523 AD.

Rome Activities:

You will find that in Rome, there are not just the usual attractions, but attractions you never hear about from anyone. Everyone who wants adventure should visit Rome and the secret underworld or the homes to the feral cats that roam the streets of the city. There is always time for fine dining and some relaxation by the pool, but once you arrive in Rome, you will want to get started on your adventures as soon as possible. One thing for sure, whether you are planning your cheap holidays to Rome for love or adventure, you will find both.
